Sakura Blossoms (written Saturday)

Everyone who’s been here for a while has commented about the Sakura blossoms being late this year. Todaywas overcast and rainy the entire day, but since we really had to go on a few errands, we ended up going out anyway. As we walked down our street toward one of the main streets, we saw an entire line of the Sakura trees had bloomed seemingly overnight!

Omoigawazakura, this kind of Sakura trees are called, after the Omoi River that goes through the city. They are the city flower. So I assume this week will be the Sakura Matsuri (festival), since the blossoms really won’t last long – maybe a week.

They are quite beautiful, and it was exciting to see them when we went out into the light rain to get some groceries. On the way back, we saw that there is also a bunch of the Sakura trees in the park near our apartment.
