I can drive now! My international license came at last on Friday night (took it long enough!) and I returned the bike and signed the rental car papers at the company office. This should be interesting!
I will probably drive as little as possible. Not only because it’s strange to me, and I’m afraid to get lost, but also because the fuel I use for any driving other than driving to work is not compensated by the company. I have yet to go to a gas station and see the prices, but from what I’ve heard, it’s expensive (just like everywhere else, of course).
I think that I’d gotten used to the idea of being on the left side of the road (from riding with others) enough that things will be all right. I’m just going to my schools, but still. So driving on the left side of the road is not too strange. The strange thing is being in the right side of the car. First off, I have to concentrate so I don’t walk to the wrong side of the car to get in. Second, I feel like I need to get used to spatial relations all over again. Rather than being careful of the right side, I must be careful of the left – that has become the far side to me.
I love how your posts are in the wee hours of the morning for us USA dwellers.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd be super nervous to drive on the other side of the road. But, yay for being able to drive! And for internet!
Oh, I was super nervous the first time I drove. I went rather slow too, so people were probably annoyed with the random blond foreigner driving slowly on the road that morning. =P
