"Hanami!"
I went with my co-workers and our boss to see the Sakura blossoms today. We went to an area called Gongendou in Saitama Prefecture to see the Sakura trees there. The blossoms are in full bloom, and we went on a good day, though the sun disappeared right before we got there. It's raining now (4 hours later), so some of the trees might lose a bunch of blossoms tonight. I sure hope not though!
The Sakura are absolutely gorgeous! The area we saw them in was covered with them. The trees lined several walkways, almost blocking off the sky since they are so close. The blossoms where we were are white, and as some of them fell, it looks like snow! Just beautiful! Down the hill and past a picnic area were a bunch of yellow flowers.
I wish I'd had my camera, but a co-worker of mine is giving me a bunch of the pictures she took, so when I get those I'll put them up. There were so many people there, walking down the paths or set up to picnic for the entire afternoon. Apparently they light up a bunch of the trees at night. It's supposed to be gorgeous at night too, it seems. I would love to see that as well!
By the by, today marks one month since 東日本大震災 ( Higashi Nihon Daishinsas) "Eastern Japan Great Earthquake Disaster". It's absolutely pouring rain, only ten minutes after a large-ish aftershock. Very good thing we went early to the Hanami!!
Thus concludes this crazy day. I need to get an umbrella ...
Lucky! Seeing the sakura blossoms is on my list of "absolute must do's while in Japan." For when I go to Japan. Take your camera everywhere! We want to see lots of pictures! (me and the hamster in my pocket ^_^)
